Description of Work

The Licensed Practical Nurse assists the Registered Nurse (RN) and Medical Team in meeting each individual resident's practicable level of independence and function through medical and psychosocial intervention, administering medication and evaluating the patient's response to care. Position will provide quality nursing services in the care and treatment of residents, under nursing supervision. The LPN works with the RN in planning, implementing, and evaluating resident care.

This position will take part in the interdisciplinary team process in nursing assessments, assist with the personal care of residents and provide guidance to Health Care Technicians during day‑to‑day activities of daily living.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $39,864.00 – $59,797.00

Sign‑on Bonus: $4,000 (contingent on 2025‑2026 Budget Approval)

Applicants must be licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in the state of North Carolina.

  • Working knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, theory and practices, sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices.
  • Working knowledge of proper dosage, effects and contraindications.
  • Skill in routine medical procedures to include basic wound care, taking vital signs, checking weights and obtaining specimens.
  • Skill in preparing and administering medications, observation and evaluation of individuals' condition(s).
  • Possess ability to respond to potentially life‑threatening situations in a calm and orderly manner.
Sign‑on Bonus Eligibility

To qualify for the Sign‑on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full‑time or permanent part‑time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week. Those working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.

Ineligibility:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government within the last 12 months.
  • The employee has previously received a sign‑on bonus from any State agency.
  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
Available Shifts

• 8‑Hour

Shifts:

B (7:00‑15:30) Saturday and Sunday 10% premium; C (15:00‑23:30) Monday‑Friday 20% premium, Saturday and Sunday 30%; A (23:00‑07:30) Monday‑Friday 20% premium, Saturday‑Sunday 30%.

• 12‑Hour

Shifts:

Day (7:00‑19:30) no premium;
Evening/Night (19:00‑07:00) Monday‑Friday 20% premium, Saturday and Sunday 30%.
