Position: Health & Safety Specialist (Night Shift)

About Us

I-77 Mobility Partners LLC finances, develops, designs, constructs, operates, and maintains the 26-mile I-77 Express project as part of a public‑private partnership with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The tolled express lanes run adjacent to the general‑purpose lanes on I-77 between Uptown Charlotte and Mooresville. I-77 Mobility Partners is responsible for operations and maintenance of all lanes, both express and general‑purpose, and right of way within the designated project corridor limits.

Job Description About the Role

Under general supervision, assists in the development and implementation of the I-77 safety program; conducts work‑site safety observations and incident investigations; and supports initiatives to educate and train employees about health and safety regulations and precautions to ensure a safe work environment.

Work Shift

Monday thru Thursday | 8 PM to 6 AM

Key Responsibilities
  • Participates/assists in the development and implementation of safety programs related to maintenance and tolling activities, and other OSHA safety compliance programs.
  • Advises Operations & Maintenance and ITS staff on safety protocols and procedures to ensure worker safety and regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA.
  • Conducts risk assessments to identify potential hazards and assess risks associated with various work activities.
  • Assigns, develops, and delivers training to employees on safety procedures, emergency response, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assists with ordering necessary safety supplies and equipment (PPE, etc.).
  • Performs regular and follow‑up inspections of facility, equipment, and work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Supports response and closure of follow‑up items and corrective actions.
  • Investigates incidents, injuries, and near misses to determine needed corrective actions.
  • Maintains accurate records of all training, inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Supports management of emergency situations, including the development and implementation of emergency response plans, oversight of annual required drills, and spill response.
  • Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Monitors compliance to safety protocols and requirements for subcontracted work.
  • Administrator of Learning Management System (KPA).
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree and at least 3 years of related experience.
  • Prior work experience in conducting safety audits and hazard assessments.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 General Industry Standard (OSHA 1926 knowledge preferred).
  • Knowledge of safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA standards.
  • Attention to detail for identifying hazards, documenting incidents, and ensuring compliance.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and generate safety, health, and environmental performance reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for training, report writing, and interaction with diverse populations.
  • Ability to manage HSE projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget.
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulations, risk assessments, and investigations.
  • Ability to assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement control measures.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
  • Proficiency in recognizing and evaluating potential hazards, including industrial hygiene practices.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and self‑motivation with initiative.
  • Good judgment in prioritizing tasks and managing time independently.
  • Comfortable with minimal daily direction while maintaining high performance.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and industry best practices.
  • Knowledge of proper waste handling, storage, and disposal procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations and procedures.
