Overview
The QA Manager oversees the entire quality management system and leadership of a team of quality control technicians, focuses on detection of mistakes and defects in manufacturing products. Develops procedures and tests to identify any irregularities and errors in the output. Ensures internal standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements are met, driving quality culture and continuous improvement across production.
Key Responsibilities- System Management:
Establish, maintain, and enforce quality policies, procedures, and the Quality Management System (QMS), aligning with standards like ISO 9001, IATF, or VDA. - Inspection & Testing:
Plan and oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspections, including weld inspections, NDT, dimensional checks (CMM), and calibration of precision tools. - Team Leadership:
Supervise, train, and develop the QA team (inspectors, engineers), conduct performance evaluations, and foster a quality-focused environment. - Process Improvement:
Implement corrective and preventive actions, conduct root cause analysis, and lead initiatives using tools like FMEA, SPC, and Control Plans. - Documentation & Reporting:
Manage internal and external quality records, certifications (material certs, C of
C), process documentation, and report on key quality metrics (scrap, downtime, cost of quality). - Customer & Supplier Relations:
Serve as a key contact for all customer quality requirements (e.g., customer quality manual management, audits, and complaints), conduct vendor surveys, manage supplier quality and audits. - Compliance:
Ensure adherence to industry-specific requirements (e.g., welding codes, automotive standards) and manage audits.
- Experience:
While no particular credentialed degree is required, proven quality management experience in a manufacturing/metalworking environment (stamping, fabrication, welding, machining) is a must. - Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with APQP components such as PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, PPAP, MSA, NDT methods, and relevant software. Ability to use and maintain quality control equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparator, calipers, and gauges). - Soft Skills:
Strong leadership, problem-solving, analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Must have discipline to ensure tasks are completed on schedule and as required by company policy or customer requirements. Diplomacy in dealing with customers and staff in difficult situations when quality issues arise.
Hands-on involvement on the shop floor. Interpreting technical drawings and customer requirements. Conducting internal and supplier audits.
