Summary
Reporting to the Assistant ReStore Manager, the ReStore Associate (RA) assists with day‑to‑day operations of the storefront end, sales floor, and receiving and processing donations in the back room. The RA will leverage volunteers to accomplish daily tasks efficiently, manage store projects as needed, and provide excellent customer service to donors, customers, volunteers, and Community Service (CS) members. This is a non‑exempt position for both full and part‑time associates requiring flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
EssentialFunctions
- Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly donation area, clean, price, and move product to facilitate an enjoyable shopping experience.
- Evaluate the condition and price of incoming merchandise (furniture, cabinets, lawn equipment) to ensure sellability and adherence to ReStore product standards.
- Ensure volunteers complete daily tasks safely and on time.
- Provide excellent customer service to customers and donors of the ReStore.
- Operate the cash register.
- Promote HFHWC’s mission, vision, and values.
- Work closely with the Assistant ReStore Manager on store improvement projects, such as building new display equipment.
- Learn about HFHWC and the ReStore and communicate the mission to volunteers and customers.

- No degree required; experience in customer service, retail, reuse, and/or trades preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and strong passion for the organization’s mission.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team with energy and persistence.
- Proven organizational skills, including managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and delivering high‑quality results quickly.
- Critical thinking, problem solving, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Regular attendance required.
- Availability to work weekends and evenings.
The RA works in coordination with the Assistant ReStore Manager and is responsible for managing volunteers and CS members within the ReStore. Formal reviews are held annually by their manager.
GuidelinesEmployees are guided by Habitat’s mission principles and Habitat Wake’s strategic plan and departmental goals.
ComplexityResponsibilities involve a variety of interrelated tasks. Procedures vary based on management requirements. The RA must be able to work with different staff members (volunteers, CS members, visitors, etc.) within the ReStore organization to fulfill varying roles.
Scope and EffectErrors in work performance may result in delays in cost recovery or loss of revenue and can cause serious operational disruptions.
ContactsIndividuals have frequent contact with HFHWC staff, clients, stakeholders, vendors, donors, the City of Raleigh community service program, customers, external private/public entities, and government agencies.
Physical DemandsEmployees are regularly required to be on their feet for extended periods (8‑hour days, 5 days a week), stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, carry, pull, and reach for stock and merchandise. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Work EnvironmentThis job operates primarily in a retail/warehouse environment and may involve operating equipment such as forklifts, power tools, hand tools, ladders, price guns, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. Occasionally, employees work outside in conditions of heat, humidity, and high noise levels.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThe RA works with ReStore volunteers and CS members to ensure day‑to‑day operational duties are completed.
