Description of WorkThis position protects clients, staff, visitors and property at Cherry Hospital and O’Berry Center on a 24‑hour, 7‑day a week basis. The Police Officer provides state and federal law enforcement for the facility and surrounding areas under mutual‑aid agreements. The officer possesses full powers of arrest to enforce traffic laws, conduct criminal investigations, search and seizure, service of warrants and subpoenas, suspect apprehensions, collection and preservation of evidence, chain‑of‑custody enforcement, and participation in court proceedings.
The officer responds to complaints, calls that require intervention and/or investigation, and serves as a patrol officer, detective squad member, or crime‑prevention officer. The officer must work 10‑hour shifts (4 PM to 2 AM) and fill in a 12‑hour rotating shift when another officer is out. This position also serves as a “floater” at times (various shifts/days/nights).
Recruitment Range: $45,506 – $72,811
- Knowledge of investigative techniques for misdemeanors and less serious felonies, obtaining/issuing search warrants, crime‐scene management, fingerprint lifting tools/techniques, community problem analysis, and legal knowledge of criminal statutes.
- Use of discretion during criminal investigations, arrests, warrant services, and community interactions.
- Initiate, complete, and document problem‑solving projects focused on crime, fear of crime, and quality‑of‑life issues with minimal supervision.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Application of safety protocols to protect people from potential harm or injury.
Walking, standing for long periods, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Additional RequirementsThe position is mandatory and requires reporting or staying over during adverse weather events.
