• Detailed individual who possesses thorough knowledge of department policies and procedures
• Thorough knowledge in reading and interpreting blueprints and maps associated with water and wastewater infrastructure
• Thorough knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of utility lines and appurtenances
• General knowledge of OSHA regulations
• Thorough knowledge in the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned
• General knowledge in preparing and maintaining reports, logs, files and other related documents
• General knowledge in the use of standard office equipment and associated software
• Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
• Ability to make arithmetic computations
• Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages
• Ability to make S.S.O. calculations, footage calculations, and pipe size, diameter and capacity calculations
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and moderate experience in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and/or sewer lines
• Possession of a valid Class "B" North Carolina commercial driver’s license upon hire
• May be required to obtain a Class "A" commercial driver’s license
• Must meet and maintain all certification, license and training requirements for the division which assigned to include
• Confined Space, North Carolina DOT Flagger, Work Zone and Traffic Control, and Trenching and Excavation certification within six months of employment
