Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance to ensure the safe and efficient operation of systems within a juvenile facility and its support buildings. The role requires journeyman‑level skill in at least one trade—such as carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, or painting—and working knowledge of others. Responsibilities include general maintenance, limited grounds care, and supervision of semi‑skilled or unskilled workers to complete tasks and support other maintenance staff as needed.
Responsibilities- Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on buildings, grounds, equipment, and facility systems.
- Conduct regular inspections and complete assigned work orders with minimal supervision, addressing maintenance issues in a timely and thorough manner.
- Assist in maintaining grounds and operating groundskeeping equipment, ensuring exterior areas of the facility are well kept and functional.
- Collaborate with the supervisor to discuss non‑routine or complex maintenance tasks and ensure proper resolution of maintenance challenges.
- Participate in cross‑training opportunities within the Facility Maintenance Group.
- Assist with a variety of general maintenance‑related duties as assigned by the supervisor, contributing to the overall upkeep and functionality of the facility.
Required skills and experience:
- Valid driver's license upon hire.
- Journeyman‑level skill in at least one trade—carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, or painting—and working knowledge of additional trades.
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and at least one year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of maintenance principles, inspection techniques, and the operation of maintenance equipment and tools.
Preferred qualifications:
- EPA certification as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician (Title
40, Code of Federal Regulations Part
82, SubpartF). - Experience in a juvenile facility or similar environment.
Salary Range: $34,270–$59,973 per year. (Each candidate’s salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations.)
Benefits include paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, health insurance, and access to state benefits. The position is full‑time (40 hours per week) and includes on‑call status as required.
