Job SummaryUnder close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic services of tractors, trailers, chassis, containers, and power equipment at a customer site or rail yard using a mobile service truck. The role may involve working outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends, with overtime. Full‑time attendance is required.
Key Responsibilities- Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks, including tire replacements/flat repairs, brake adjustments, services and replacements, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on trailer chassis, sub‑frames, etc.
- Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard.
- Operate the assigned service truck in a professional manner and according to company requirements; keep the unit clean and well‑stocked.
- Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures.
- Properly document damage to company equipment to allow subrogation of repair costs.
- Understand and demonstrate the basic use of a cutting torch and welding equipment; perform minor repairs on chassis, frames, brackets, etc.
- Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs ensuring all holes are sealed and water‑tight.
- Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections under the supervision of a certified technician as required.
- 8 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs.
- Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences.
- Possess a clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines.
- Able to supply your own basic tools or purchase through the toolbox purchase program.
- Willingness to work outdoors in the elements.
- Able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent with up to 1 year of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑trailer maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes.
- Welding certification.
- Forklift certification and experience.
- EPA section 608 certification and refrigeration license.
- Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds).
- Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).
Base pay range: $28.47 – $42.71 per hour. The position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes, in accordance with the company’s bonus and incentive plans.
This position is not eligible for employment‑based sponsorship.
