The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission.

• Functioning at the journey level in two or more technical trades (electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, or similar specializations) in connection with maintenance of facilities, related equipment and machinery.
• Completing complex work assignments which require planning and coordination of multiple trade disciplines.
• Working assigned tasks independently and referring very technical or unusual working problems to a supervisor for consideration.
• Supervising offender workers engaged in semiskilled, unskilled, or of skilled maintenance assignments.
• Ensuring compliance with work orders.
• Maintaining equipment in proper working condition.

Candidates who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and/or materials used in the general maintenance and/or repair of buildings, equipment, and/or machinery.

• May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
