Building Maintenance Tech

Job Title

Starting hourly rate is $21.42. Under the supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, performs responsible skilled and semi-skilled work in a variety of Park maintenance, repair and construction jobs involving the use of common tools and equipment and frequently operates specialized equipment; does related work as required. Supervision is exercised over subordinate maintenance workers and helpers.

• Performs building and park maintenance work including alteration, repair and maintenance of City buildings and related mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems;
• Performs basic carpentry work, prepares surfaces and paints buildings;
• Inspects City facilities and equipment to determine maintenance and repair needs;
• Repairs and maintains equipment, tools and vehicles;
• Performs preventative maintenance as required;
• Assists workers with technical problems and assignments;
• Participates in the pickup, loading and unloading of materials needed for work assignments;
• Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, tractors with attachments, dump truck, tractors, mowers, loaders, skid steer, trencher, excavator and truck/trailer combinations, scissors and boom lifts, bucket trucks.
• Inspects Playgrounds.
• Assembles and repairs playground equipment and fencing.
• Inspects backflow prev enters.
• Prepares and paints surfaces.
• Prepares athletic fields and park facilities for activities
• Provide set up/take down for special events including mobile stage, as well as tents, concession trailers, portable barricades and tables/chairs.
• Cuts down and prunes trees and shrubs.
• Prepares work reports;
• Trains and assists co-workers as needed.
• Cleans buildings and sanitizes
• Must be available to be on call for after hours and weekends for incidents/emergencies, also be available to work overtime as needed.
• Complete other duties as deemed necessary to operations by supervisor.
• Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.

Required Qualifications

• CDL-A or obtain within 6 months of hire date.
• High School Diploma or GED
• Must have good knowledge of the safe and proper use of power tools, hand tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Must have general knowledge relating to maintenance, repair, equipment operation and manual tasks.
• Must be able to climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed and must be available to be on-call for after-hours and weekends for incidents/emergencies as needed;
• Thorough understanding of local, state and federal safety regulations and OSHA
• Documented experience as a semi-skilled or skilled worker in building maintenance, repair or construction is preferred.

• Field of Vision
  - Area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. To ensure safety, must be able to see wide span of area to cover grounds when employees and other people are entering and leaving area.
• Accommodation
  - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This is especially important when doing near-point work while glancing up to check entire work area. Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly from equipment to people who are located at varying distances.

• Requires a significant amount of walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and lifting.
