The person in this position is responsible for providing social work services to children and the parents/caretakers whose children have been placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services through the Courts as a result of abuse, neglect, and/or dependency. The person will help the parents/caretakers overcome barriers to achieving permanence with the children. The person will evaluate the type of substitute care needed for the children, locate and arrange the substitute care, supervise the children’s placements to ensure the children’s needs are met.
The person will also provide services to ensure that regular contact is maintained between the children and their family. The person will transport the children and parents/caretakers when needed. The person will also be responsible for testifying in court regularly and being on‑call after hours/weekends periodically to assess situations of abuse, neglect and/or dependency and perform additional related duties.
- Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience
- Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience
- A four‑year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience
- A four‑year college or university degree and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling or a related human services field providing experience in casework, group work or community organization
- Possession of a valid driver’s license in the state of North Carolina
- Eligibility to staff emergency shelters and Emergency Operations Centers during times of disaster as required by state mandates and the Halifax County Emergency Operations Plan
