Human Services Coordinator I – MAGI Review (Orange County Department of Social Services)
The role involves leading the work of Human Services Specialists and Technicians, providing ongoing training, and managing a team in application processing, determination, and re‑determination of eligibility for public assistance programs. This position troubleshoots issues and trains employees on related software applications.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Human Services Supervisor, exercising independent judgment within applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Supervision over others is not required, but related work as required may be performed.
Hiring compensation is based on the Orange County Social Services Step Plan, which considers years of experience in the Human Services Coordinator I role and related functions.
Safety and Compliance- Position is safety‑sensitive; participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required.
- Background check with fingerprinting by the SBI is mandatory before employment can commence.
- Graduate from an accredited college/university with a master’s degree in a human services field (e.g., social work, counseling, psychology) OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field plus two (2) years of experience in social work or counseling and/or casework, group work, or community organization, and one (1) year of leadership/coordinating experience.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. Higher degrees do not substitute for required work experience.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the vehicle or equipment operated.
- All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check, drug testing (when required), and final verification of eligibility for employment.
- Employees may be required to participate in emergency preparedness and response operations, and to perform temporary assignments outside of regular duties, hours, or location as determined by County leadership.
