Correctional Programs Supervisor (S)
Reporting To: Correctional Associate Warden for Programs
Description of Work: Serves as the Recreation Coordinator for a state prison facility, overseeing all recreational programs for offenders and ensuring compliance with performance‑based standards and accreditation requirements.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and maintain the recreational program, ensuring accountability for accreditation compliance.
- Develop a comprehensive annual recreation plan that promotes the physical, mental, emotional, and social well‑being of the prison population.
- Plan leisure time activities, structured activities, special activities, and recognition activities that involve both the facility and the community.
- Oversee recreational activity planning and oversight, including seasonal and holiday events; purchase, inventory, and distribute equipment and supplies; evaluate recreational areas; manage maintenance of equipment and areas; coordinate library access for all offenders (books and movies); and coordinate plans with staff and management.
- Ensure offenders with disabilities and those in close custody or restrictive housing have access to programs within their restrictions.
- Coordinate with community agencies to enrich programs, establish new programs, and recruit community volunteers.
- Supervise staff and offenders who assist with recreational programs; do not manage offender caseloads.
- Minimum education:
Bachelor’s degree in human services or criminal justice from an accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Preferred:
Thorough knowledge of prison policies and procedures gained through correctional facility experience; knowledge of community and public/private program services; experience developing or supporting activities for a large group of individuals. - Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
$39,244 - $68,679 (Grade NC08)
