The North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Residential Life Coordinator to provide leadership, supervision, and oversight within the school's residential program.

This position is responsible for supervising assigned Residential Life staff, coordinating daily residential operations, promoting student safety and well-being, and ensuring a structured, supportive, and accessible living environment for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

The Residential Life Supervisor serves as a key member of the Residential Life leadership team and works closely with the Director of Residential Life, residential staff, students, families, and other school departments. The position requires strong supervisory, organizational, communication, problem-solving, and student-support skills.

The Residential Life Coordinator position at the North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) plays a vital role in fostering a safe, supportive, and enriching living environment for students within the residential program. This second shift position involves direct supervision and mentorship of students, promoting their social, emotional, and academic development outside of the classroom.

*** This is a full time eleven (11) month position.***

Work Schedule:

Sunday to Thursday on second shift; 2:45pm to 11:30 pm

Mid-August to June (typically off in July

This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

• Supervise and monitor students during non-instructional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Implement and enforce school policies and procedures within the residential setting, promoting a positive and structured living environment.
• Develop and facilitate engaging recreational, social, and educational activities that cater to the diverse needs and interests of students.
• Provide guidance and support to students in developing essential life skills, including personal hygiene, independent living, and conflict resolution.
• Act as a positive role model and mentor, fostering strong relationships with students and advocating for their individual needs.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, school staff, and external stakeholders regarding student progress, concerns, and residential life matters.
• Administer medication as prescribed and provide basic first aid as needed, adhering to established protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and participation in residential activities.
• Collaborate with other residential staff, teachers, and support services to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to residential life and working with deaf or hard-of-hearing students.

• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to work with and support the development of students.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to learn and achieve proficiency within a specified timeframe.
• Previous experience working with children or adolescents in a supervisory or residential setting.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain composure in challenging situations, and respond effectively to emergencies.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, overnights, and weekends.
• Valid driver's license preferred.
