The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Hydrogeologist in our High Wycombe or Shrewsbury office, where you will become part of a market-leading Energy & Resources discipline.

About

The Role

As a graduate Hydrogeologist, you will balance technical learning with practical project delivery to support key groundwater and environmental projects across the UK. You will sit within our dedicated team of hydro geologists, as part of a wider national Energy & Resources GEO team of about 40 specialists.

Depending on your specific skill set and interests, day‑to‑day project work can be tailored to range from modelling and desk‑based risk assessments to active site support.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Hydrogeological Site Characterisation: Assisting with groundwater investigations, field testing, and site characterisation activities.
  • Modelling & Quantitative Analysis: Applying the fundamentals of groundwater flow modelling and fate and transport modelling to real‑world projects.
  • Risk Assessments & Permitting: Supporting the preparation of Hydrogeological Risk Assessments (H1RAs) and environmental permitting documentation.
  • Contaminant Hydrogeology: Assisting with land quality assessments, groundwater contamination investigations, and monitoring programmes.
  • Technical Reporting: Preparing high‑quality technical reports, data sets, and technical presentations for clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Cross‑Sector

    Collaboration:

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across Energy & Resources as well as Water to support discipline resilience and broad project delivery.

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. The applicable professional qualification for this role is Chartered Geologist (CGeol) status with the Geological Society of London (GSL).

Your Impact

In this role, you will play a critical part in protecting groundwater resources and managing environmental risks across the UK. Supporting high‑profile energy, industrial, and quarrying projects—such as Urenco Capenhurst, major HS2/BBV Hydrogeological Risk Assessments, and CEMEX aggregate developments—your technical insights will directly inform land quality and sustainable water management. Working alongside seasoned specialists, your contribution to quantitative hydrogeology and site assessments will help communities navigate environmental challenges and leave a lasting, positive legacy.
