Theater Costume Designer

Position Title:

HPHS Theater Costume Designer

Reports To:

Dr. Joaquin Stephenson

The costume designer will facilitate all costume needs for (1) musical and (2) non-musicals.

They will collaborate with students, the Theatre Director, Properties Designer, and Theatre Technical Director in the research, creation, and implementation of Costumes.

Bachelor's in Theater, Theatrical Design/Theater and/or previous Costume experience is recommended.

Collaborate with the Theatre Director on the show's aesthetics and specific costume needs inherent to the artistic vision.

• Work with the Technical Director and stage crew students to organize and maintain the school's costume inventory (digital inventory system).
• Provide interested students with instruction on the basics of costume construction, costume research, and costume design.

• Build and/or rent costumes for each production working within the designated budget.
• Work with students to ensure their costume fits well & makes them comfortable/confident.
• Be on-site for actor measurements, costume fittings, and all dress rehearsals.
• Work with the technical director and stage crew students to organize and maintain the school's costume inventory.
• Provide interested students with instruction on the basics of garment construction, tailoring, and costume design.

Meet 2-3 times per week in preparation for shows. Shows perform late September/early October;

Stipend is a Category #

Performance will be evaluated annually by Dr. Joaquin Stephenson in accordance with district policies.
