Maintenance Worker, Building Maintenance
Primary Purpose
Performs a variety of maintenance, repair, service, and installation tasks on City infrastructure and properties. Work includes maintenance of roadway systems, bridges, water distribution systems, storm lines, sanitary sewer lines, ravines, ponds, sidewalks, and related appurtenances necessary for the functioning of the community.

IUOE Local 150 union position. IMRF pension eligible role.
New hires enter at Step 1 of salary schedule: $32.952 hourly ($68,539.73). Eligible for step increase after 6 months.
Maintenance Workers may be assigned to any one of the three sections Water, Streets, and Sewer and may be transferred between sections.
Water- Maintain and repair water mains, water meters, fire hydrants, valves, and service lines.
- Read water meters.
- Shovel and roll asphalt in street and alley repair.
- Form and pour concrete curbs, gutters, slabs, sidewalks, and handicap ramps.
- Replace, fabricate, and install street, parking, and traffic signs and posts.
- Fill potholes.
- Maintain and repair sanitary and storm sewers, manholes, and inlets.
- Perform diagnostic functions such as dye testing and sewer televising.
- Haul materials and participate in snow and ice control operations.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is required.
ExperienceProof of satisfactory past work experience in public works or construction trades. Three years of municipal or comparable experience is preferred.
Certification or LicenseA valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B, with air brake endorsement, is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Proficiencies- Knowledge of safe practices and procedures for operation of materials, machinery, vehicles, and equipment used in street, sewer, and water distribution maintenance.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to public works operations.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, and to properly use hand and power tools.
- Ability to recognize hazards and take safety precautions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and the public.
