TPG Staffing is seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor for a successful and growing Central New Jersey company. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished payroll professional who is ready to combine strong hands-on payroll expertise with leadership and oversight responsibilities. The Payroll Supervisor will help manage day-to-day payroll operations, support and guide payroll team members, and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for a diverse portfolio of client companies.
The position offers a hybrid work schedule and is based in Highland Park, New Jersey office. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a collaborative, fast-paced environment, takes pride in delivering exceptional client service, and can successfully balance supervisory responsibilities with hands-on payroll processing.
The successful candidate will have significant payroll experience, a strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll requirements, and experience working across multiple payroll platforms and client environments.
Primary Responsibilities- Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll for multiple client companies and business entities at weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and other payroll frequencies.
- Remain hands-on in payroll processing and provide coverage when necessary to ensure client payrolls are completed on time.
- Perform and oversee payroll data entry, including time and attendance, earnings, deductions, employee maintenance, and other payroll-related information.
- Work with multiple payroll applications, including ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, UKG, and similar payroll systems.
- Review payrolls before final processing to verify accuracy and identify potential discrepancies.
- Ensure payroll transactions comply with applicable federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour, and tax requirements.
- Review and ensure proper federal, state, and local payroll taxation.
- Calculate and review gross-ups, retroactive payments, bonuses, adjustments, and manual checks.
- Oversee the processing of garnishments, levies, child support orders, and other required deductions.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations, compensation changes, deductions, and other employee changes.
- Review time and attendance information and ensure accurate integration with payroll systems.
- Assist with quarter-end and year-end payroll processing, reconciliations, reporting, and related activities.
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to Payroll Specialists and other payroll team members.
- Assign and coordinate payroll responsibilities to ensure appropriate workload distribution and timely completion.
- Monitor payroll calendars, client deadlines, and team workflow.
- Review team members' payroll work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Serve as a resource for payroll staff when questions or complex payroll situations arise.
- Provide coaching, training, and ongoing feedback to payroll team members.
- Assist with onboarding and training new payroll employees.
- Help establish consistent payroll procedures and best practices across the department.
- Escalate significant payroll, client, compliance, or operational concerns to management as appropriate.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, responsiveness, and a high level of client service throughout the payroll department.
- Develop strong working relationships with assigned client companies.
- Serve as an escalation point for more complex client payroll questions and concerns.
- Respond to client requests quickly, professionally, and accurately.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and client inquiries.
- Communicate proactively with clients regarding payroll deadlines, missing information, compliance matters, and other issues that could impact timely processing.
- Ensure payroll team members provide consistent, responsive, and professional client service.
- Help identify opportunities to improve the overall client payroll experience.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll requirements.
- Ensure payroll practices and procedures remain consistent with applicable wage, hour, tax, withholding, and garnishment requirements.
- Prepare, review, analyze, and reconcile detailed payroll reports.
- Assist with workers' compensation and state disability insurance reporting, payments, audits, and reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate payroll documentation and appropriate internal controls.
- Ensure confidential payroll and client information is maintained securely.
- Maintain organized electronic payroll and client files.
- Assist with payroll audits and requests for supporting payroll documentation.
- Identify payroll discrepancies, trends, or potential compliance concerns and take appropriate corrective action.
