Salary and Pay

Base Salary: $78,668.37

Eligible Salary (Base + Overtime + Certification/Differential Pay): $89,481.75

Certification/Differential Pay: Up to $4,800 per year upon receiving qualified certifications.

Overtime: 4 hours per shift (equivalent to $6,013.38 per year). Actual overtime and schedule are not guaranteed and depend on several factors.

  • Gather and disseminate vital information to the public.
  • Mediates disputes to maintain harmony and peace.
  • Participates in service-oriented initiatives to enhance community relations.
  • Prevents and investigates crimes to ensure public safety.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Fingerprint‑checked and screened; no court‑ordered community supervision or probation; no convictions of Class B misdemeanor or higher within 10 years; no prior felonies; no convictions of more than five moving violations in last 3 years; no prior DWI convictions.
  • Good moral character and passes thorough background investigation and interview.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; or 12 semester hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Passes state medical, mental, polygraph, and drug testing requirements.
  • Not discharged from military service under less than honorable conditions.
  • Insurable driving record as per city policy.
  • Valid Texas Peace Officer’s license via TCOLE before duties.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Obtain Emergency Care Attendant (ECA) certification within 18 months of hire or as approved.
  • Honesty required—false statements are grounds for rejection or termination.

Shift Schedule

Sworn Police Officers are scheduled for 12‑hour shifts with rotating Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off. The schedule averages 84 hours every two weeks, with 4 hours of built‑in overtime, totaling approximately 184 hours per year. All hours beyond 80 in a bi‑weekly pay period are considered overtime.
