Investigator

Under the direction of the Sergeant, the Investigator conducts complex investigations involving criminal activity, fraud, theft, policy violations, workplace violence and other non-gaming investigations while enforcing applicable laws, rules and regulations under California, federal and tribal government codes.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Coordinates investigations with law enforcement, Department of Public Safety (DPS), and Tribal departments. Investigates criminal activity, misconduct, policy violations, workplace violence, suspicious activity, and other cases.

Initiates investigations based on observations, collects and preserves evidence, and conducts searches within legal guidelines. Completes investigations and reports by analyzing information and interviewing relevant individuals.

Manages incident scenes, investigates causes, photographs, sketches, diagrams, and takes appropriate action.

Prepares case material for court proceedings and provides testimony in both criminal and civil matters representing the enterprise.

Maintains and controls authorized equipment, firearms, and ammunition.

Provides excellent customer service by interacting with community groups and customers and providing information on policies while maintaining good public relations with internal customers, vendors, and law enforcement.

Ensures compliance and fosters positive relationships with tribal members, staff, gaming management, and local law enforcement by understanding and applying relevant laws, regulations, and tribal ordinances.

Conducts surveillance and intelligence gathering, coordinating with Intelligence as needed.

Assists team members with major incidents and complex situations, while remaining on-call and responding as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education, Experience And Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in security management, administration of justice, public administration or related field required.

  • Minimum two (2) years' experience with a law enforcement or security organization with at least one (1) year experience conducting sophisticated investigations required.

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

Skills And Abilities

(Ksa)
  • Ability to conduct related threat analysis and intelligence operations.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Bilingual communication skills are preferred.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.

  • Knowledge of criminal law, investigations techniques, related vicarious civil and legal liabilities, search and seizure, use of force, lawful detention, and probable cause is required.

  • Knowledge of gaming, Indian gaming and casino related operations, and public law 280 is a preferred.

  • Knowledge of surveillance techniques, interviewing and interrogation techniques, and modern public safety techniques pertaining to all department divisions is required.

  • Knowledge of the security industry and developed relationships with a variety of security professionals is preferred.

Licenses, Certifications And Registrations
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • Obtain and maintain a valid BSIS Gun, Guard Card, and DPS Training Requirements, including passing BSIS courses in Powers of Arrest and Firearms Certification.

  • Comply with all current requirements set forth by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) for Armed Security Officers within 90 days of employment.

  • Authorized Driver:
    Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
