Under the direction of the Sergeant, Department of Public Safety (DPS), Public Safety Officer II (PSO II) provides essential support to DPS. This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of the organization and expertise in public safety practices, along with an understanding of all DPS policies and procedures. PSO II is responsible for performing a broad range of duties while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
Additionally, the PSO II may undertake other assignments and responsibilities as designated by DPS.
- List High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Associate's degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in related field is preferred.
- Minimum four (4) years of experience working Security is required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
(KSA)
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle complex public interactions.
- Advanced knowledge of security procedures and applicable State, Federal and Tribal laws, regulations, and ordinances; proficiency in interviewing and interrogation techniques; expertise in surveillance techniques; and a comprehensive understanding of laws governing search and seizure.
- Must demonstrate advanced ability to analyze situations critically and objectively, recording detailed information accurately and completely while providing service with exceptional skill, firmness, tact, and impartiality.
- Must excel in recalling and expressing complex information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with the ability to brief senior management effectively.
- Must consistently demonstrate the ability to remain calm under highly stressful conditions, exercise advanced judgment, and make sound decisions during emergency situations.
- Must safely operate a motor vehicle and possess thorough knowledge of state and local motor vehicle laws, along with the capability to train others in safe driving practices.
- Must maintain exemplary grooming and appearance standards, serving as a role model for PSO-I in adherence to DPS policies on uniform appearance. Must properly maintain and utilize all issued personal protection equipment, including ballistic vests.
- Must consistently produce high-quality written documents, demonstrating advanced skills in spelling, grammar, punctuation, organization, and content.
- Must demonstrate the ability to assume leadership roles in incident command situations.
- Must exhibit the ability to train and develop PSOs, lead small teams, and assist in the development of departmental policies and procedures.
- Must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professionalism and development and be willing to pursue additional certifications or specialized training as required by the department.
