Teen Librarian II (full-time) – Highland Park, IL

The Teen Librarian II leads and manages the newly created Teen Room within the Adult Services Department of the Highland Park Library.

Job Location: On site in Highland Park, IL

Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week). Monday evenings (1pm – 9pm), Tuesday to Friday (9am – 6pm), and a rotating weekend (Saturday or Sunday) once per month.

Compensation: $64,000 – $70,000 annual salary, based on education, experience, and training

Responsibilities:

• Support patrons on finding information and readers’ services at a busy public desk
• Demonstrate, assist, and instruct members in the use of information technologies and library equipment, including the online catalog, databases, web resources, microforms, photocopiers, scanners, computers, tablets, e‑readers, and related devices
• Develop and maintain collection in assigned areas, including Teen and some Adult Nonfiction
• Participate in community and outreach activities; serve as liaison to schools, businesses, Park District, City of Highland Park, and other community organizations and agencies as assigned
• Develop, implement, and evaluate Teen programs
• Assist in maintaining department documents, forms, procedures, and the intranet site
• Act as acting Adult Services Manager as needed
• Perform Person‑in‑Charge duties, partnering with manager to open and close the library

Requirements:

• 3+ years of librarian experience, with at least one year of teen-related experience in a public library
• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA‑accredited institution
• Knowledge of nonfiction and teen collections
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the public
• Experience with content management systems is desirable
