Position Title: Sheet Metal Fabricator - 1st Shift Opportunities
Location: Highland, IL
Position SummaryAs a Sheet Metal Fabricator, you will be responsible for the precise fabrication and assembly of various sheet metal components used in the construction of custom trailers. Your role will involve interpreting design blueprints, selecting appropriate materials, utilizing specialized equipment, and ensuring the highest quality standards in the fabrication process. This work environment is dynamic and versatile in nature, where employees are expected to wear multiple hats and handle a variety of tasks.
This role requires a high level of adaptability, as daily tasks and priorities may shift based on the evolving needs of the day.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to fabricate custom trailer components according to design requirements.
- Select appropriate sheet metal materials based on project specifications, considering factors such as strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare fabricated surfaces for finishing and inspection by performing sanding, grinding, and polishing operations.
- Utilize cutting tools such as shears to accurately cut and shape sheet metal according to design specifications.
- Employ various forming and bending techniques to shape sheet metal components into the desired configurations.
- Inspect fabricated components to verify dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and compliance with company and customer quality standards.
- Troubleshoot fabrication issues, identify root causes of defects, and implement corrective actions to maintain production quality and efficiency.
- Collaborate with design engineers, production managers, and other team members to communicate progress, address concerns, and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience as a sheet metal fabricator.
- Must be able to display mechanical aptitude and use basic hand tools such as a tape measure, level, drill, etc.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal materials, cutting techniques, and forming processes.
- Familiarity with a range of sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- Communicate drawing discrepancies and fabrication concerns to supervisors and engineering.
- Strong attention to detail, quality, and workplace safety.
- Must demonstrate a consistent and stable work history.
- Perform welding and joining operations to assemble sheet metal components into sub‑assemblies or complete trailer structures, ensuring structural integrity and precision.
- Certification or training in sheet metal fabrication, welding, or a related discipline.
- Sheet metal experience in custom trailer, construction or a related field.
- Brake press and manual brake experience.
- Hydraulics experience.
- 12‑volt wiring experience.
- Physically able to stand up to 8+ hours per day.
- Ability to ascend/descend ladder and climb in and out of trailers as well as work out of a man lift.
