Job Description Summary

The Summer Lab Science Instructor will design and lead an interactive, inquiry‑based science curriculum for high school students (9th–12th grade). This role is centered on "Learning by Doing." The instructor will guide students through the scientific method, laboratory safety, and data analysis to prepare them for success in college‑level STEM tracks.

The Summer Lab Science Instructor will design and lead an interactive, inquiry‑based science curriculum for high school students (9th–12th grade). This role is centered on "Learning by Doing." The instructor will guide students through the scientific method, laboratory safety, and data analysis to prepare them for success in college‑level STEM tracks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inquiry-Based Instruction:
    Deliver engaging lessons in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Environmental Science that prioritize laboratory work over traditional lecturing.
  • Lab Design & Supervision:
    Create and facilitate weekly hands‑on experiments (at least 2 labs per week), ensuring all students follow strict safety protocols.
  • Scientific Literacy:
    Teach students how to formulate hypotheses, maintain a professional lab notebook, and write formal scientific reports.
  • STEM Career Awareness:
    Integrate discussions regarding STEM majors and careers, specifically highlighting opportunities for underrepresented populations in science.
  • Bridge Curriculum:
    Align course content with the state standards students will encounter in the upcoming fall semester to ensure academic "bridge" success.
  • Assessment:
    Administer mandated Pre‑and Post‑Tests to quantify student learning gains for federal grant reporting.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Science Education, or a related field.
  • Safety Knowledge:
    Thorough understanding of Lab Safety Standards (OSHA/GHS) and the ability to manage laboratory equipment and chemicals.
  • Experience:

    1–2 years of experience in classroom instruction or as a Lab Teaching Assistant (TA).
  • Mission Alignment:
    Passion for closing the "STEM Gap" for first‑generation and low‑income students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Secondary Science Teaching Certification.
  • Experience designing "Kitchen Chemistry" or low‑cost/high‑impact experiments that engage multicultural learners.
  • Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Prior experience with TRIO/Upward Bound or similar educational outreach programs.
Pay Rate

37.50/Hour
