Deli Manager Trainee

Strack & Van Til is seeking a Deli Manager Trainee to learn all aspects of our busy deli department. In this hands-on role, you'll support daily operations, including food preparation, merchandising, inventory control, and staff support while delivering friendly, neighborhood-focused service. Working closely with the Deli Manager, you'll learn ordering, scheduling, sanitation, and sales-building techniques. Ideal candidates are customer-focused, reliable, and eager to grow into a leadership role in a fast-paced supermarket environment serving Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland communities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily deli operations including food prep, slicing, and service
• Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness
• Support merchandising, case setup, and product rotation for freshness
• Monitor inventory, assist with ordering, and minimize shrink
• Provide friendly, efficient customer service and handle special orders
• Learn scheduling, training, and direction of deli staff
• Support sales-building initiatives, sampling, and suggestive selling
• Follow company policies, labeling, and safety procedures
• Operate deli equipment safely and correctly
• Assist Deli Manager with reports and department goals
