Field Service Technician
- Parts Washer Route

Calumet Chicago Company
- Highland, IN 46322

$25/hour starting ($52,000+/year) with raises based on performance - up to $28/hour for proven techs

Home every night. Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. No CDL required.

Calumet Chicago Company is hiring a field service technician to service our fleet of Cuda aqueous parts washers at industrial customer locations across Northwest Indiana and the south Chicagoland area. You’ll be the face of our company at some of the largest industrial facilities in the region - U.S. Steel, Cleveland-Cliffs, and other major steel, food processing, and manufacturing facilities across NW Indiana.

You’ll drive a company-provided Ford F‑550 service truck on an established local route - no CDL required - servicing 4‑6 customer stops per day and heading home every evening.

This is real industrial work - not clean‑shirt work. Expect to remove and clean spray nozzles and arms, service turntables and chains, replace strainer filters, test and replace water pumps, and perform water and sludge reclamation. You’ll operate a water vacuum and sump pump, and occasionally use a shovel when the job calls for it. Every repair gets documented in a written service record.

This is a hands‑on, mechanical role with a clear growth path. You’ll be paired with an experienced mentor manager who trains you on our equipment, our customers, and our process. Bring a strong work ethic, a clean driving record, and the willingness to learn — we’ll provide the rest.

About us: Calumet Chicago Company is a family‑owned industrial equipment distributor and service business founded in 1963. We’ve built our reputation on going the extra mile for our customers, and our team members stay with us because they’re treated like family. Learn more at

What You’ll Do
  • Service, inspect, and maintain Cuda aqueous parts washer units at customer sites on an established local route (NW Indiana + south Chicagoland)
  • Remove and clean spray nozzles and arms; service turntables and chains; replace strainer filters
  • Test and replace water pumps; troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and replace parts to restore units to full operation
  • Perform water and sludge reclamation — operate water vacuum and sump pump; occasional shovel work for heavier cleanup
  • Refresh washers with fresh non‐hazardous detergent solution
  • Complete daily service sheets, written service records, and customer reclamation manifests
  • Communicate professionally with site supervisors and explain repairs/recommendations to customers
  • Operate a company‑provided Ford F‑550 service truck on your route
  • Perform daily pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections
  • Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and customer site rules (including steel‑mill site safety protocols)
  • Travel to Ohio once every 2‑3 months for an overnight service trip (hotel, meals, and fuel/mileage fully covered by the company)
What We’re Looking For
  • Clean driving record — this is essential (you’ll be driving a company truck daily)
  • Valid Class D driver’s license (regular driver’s license) —
Class B CDL is a nice‑to‑have, not required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on repair experience — you like figuring out why things aren’t working and fixing them
  • Ability to follow written procedures, service manuals, repair orders, equipment specs, and direction from your mentor manager
  • Ability to work independently on route AND as part of a small team back at the shop
  • Strong communication — you’re the face of Calumet Chicago at every customer stop, and you’ll complete written service records daily
  • Ability to read basic schematics
  • Physically able to lift/carry up to 75 lbs, climb stairs and ladders, push/pull heavy material, and operate a water vacuum, sump pump, and shovel as needed
  • High school diploma or GED
Bonus points if you have:
  • Certified electrical panel diagnostics experience — a real differentiator for this role
  • Prior steel‑mill or heavy‑industrial site experience — you already know the safety culture and the pace

No prior parts washer experience needed. If you have a mechanical background — automotive, diesel, industrial maintenance, HVAC, appliance repair, hydraulics,…
