The job of SpEd Para II is performed for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program under the direction of an assigned classroom teacher. Responsibilities include assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the regular or self‑contained classroom; implementing instructional plans; monitoring student behavior during instructional and non‑instructional time; and providing information to appropriate school personnel.

Functions
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and IEP goals.
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
  • Assists students with self‑care activities for the purpose of maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Attends job‑specific trainings for the purpose of acquiring and conveying information related to job functions.
  • Collects data to support teachers in the classroom and prepare reports and/or processing forms.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
  • Implements, under the supervision of an assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions to reinforce learning concepts and acquire appropriate social and school skills.
  • Maintains instructional materials and electronic files/records to ensure availability of items, provide written references, and meet mandated requirements.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provides, under the supervision of an assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP plans, and ensure student success in school.
  • Attends meetings and in‑service presentations to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 16+ years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Job‑related experience desired
