PositionLockheed Martin Space is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer (Thermal Analysis). In this role you will be supporting the Orion thermal analysis team by performing and owning thermal analyses on spacecraft components, subsystems (Avionics, Propulsion, etc.), and the entire spacecraft thermal system using standardized processes and tools (Thermal Desktop, SINDA/Fluint). Other related responsibilities include providing technical memos and input to data packages to support peer and customer technical presentations;
providing review, interpretation, flow-down and implementation of all program requirements; providing thermal engineering support for multi-week TVAC testing in Cape Canaveral, FL or Denver, CO and working interactively with diverse engineering disciplines in a fast-paced environment to develop cost-effective solutions to thermal control requirements which also satisfy producibility objectives defined by Manufacturing and Quality groups.
- Perform and own thermal analyses on spacecraft components, subsystems, and the full spacecraft thermal system.
- Contribute to technical memos and data packages to support peer and customer technical presentations.
- Review, interpret, and implement program requirements with thermal engineering input.
- Provide thermal engineering support for multi-week TVAC testing at specified locations.
- Collaborate with diverse engineering disciplines to develop cost-effective, producible thermal solutions.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education. Considered experienced, but still a learner.
- Thorough knowledge of heat transfer and thermodynamics, particularly related to space applications.
- Experience with spacecraft design, verification, and development.
- Experience with Creo Parametric or Creo View, and AutoCAD (Thermal Desktop graphical interface) on a Microsoft Windows platform.
- Creativity/innovation to solve issues related to anomalous performance of any aspect of the spacecraft thermal system.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communications skills (technical writing and presentation), dedication to Mission Success.
- Experience with test planning and execution.
- Proficiency with Thermal Desktop, SINDA/Fluint.
- Proficient in Python.
- Familiarity with first-order heat transfer hand calculations.
- Experience with spacecraft thermal control system and hardware design.
- Spacecraft or aerospace component thermal cycle or thermal vacuum experience, including test procedure development, instrumentation definition, test direction and post-test model correlation, as well as I&T operations MLI installation and inspection of passive and active thermal control features.
