Role description
Arcadis is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join an established and growing multi‑national mining engineering team. The selected candidate will provide technical leadership for projects across the United States, Canada, Chile, and other locations, reporting to any of the Mountain West US offices and working in a hybrid arrangement with approximately 10% travel.
In this position, you will lead geotechnical engineering on surface mining projects, including tailings facilities and open pits, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and deliver sustainable mining solutions. Diverse project opportunities include mine reclamation engineering and other environmental projects such as sediment remediation, water dam design and evaluation. Work will entail a mixture of geotechnical investigations, feasibility studies, design, and construction quality assurance.
Roleaccountabilities
- Provide leadership to the Geotechnical Engineering community and Mining Sector Team through an understanding of technical principles and current/future market conditions.
- Act as or become an Engineer of Record (EoR) or Deputy EoR on appropriate projects.
- Support business development by identifying and pursuing growth opportunities with existing and new clients.
- Use excellent communication skills to represent Arcadis to external teams and clients and effectively engage Arcadis teams.
- Lead engineering project teams by defining project goals, constraints, and managing external inputs to deliver informed technical solutions.
- Perform geotechnical engineering reviews and provide key input on critical projects.
- Apply engineering principles and understanding of mine operations to develop effective solutions for clients’ challenges.
- Mine tailings and water dam siting, design, and evaluation.
- Mine high‑wall investigations and slope stability analysis.
- Direct and support dam safety reviews.
- Geotechnical investigation, monitoring methods, and techniques.
- Soft‑ground mechanics and stabilization techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- B.S. degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a closely related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Minimum 15 years of experience.
- Post‑graduate degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field.
- Direct experience with geotechnical modeling software such as Geo Studio, Roc Science, FLAC, PLAXIS, etc.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D, Arc Map, or similar geospatial software.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $175,774 - $265,162.
