As an Orion Materials and Processes Engineer you’ll work on a broad range of projects, in both a laboratory and manufacturing environment, challenging yourself to learn and grow in your career. Working side by side with design, manufacturing, and quality engineers, you’ll use your education, experience and growing expertise to develop and evaluate new and innovative technology to survive in the most hostile of space environments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Materials and Processes (M&P) technical engineering assignments
  • Troubleshoot problems and find innovative solutions
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, evaluate suppliers and analyze test reports
  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement
  • Lead technical projects with engineering teams to meet program objectives
Qualifications
  • A self‑starter who develops solutions to technical issues
  • Motivated individual who works closely within a geographically diverse team to resolve technical issues
  • Ability to handle shifting priorities, multiple projects and timeline pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with management and program representatives at several levels
  • Technical leadership of cross‑functional projects
  • Ability to travel periodically as needed for assignments (~10%)
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience establishing and implementing technical requirements (specifications, program plans/requirements, etc.)
  • Experience in composite materials and processes such as composites, adhesives, bonding, failure analysis, and/or manufacturing operations
  • Knowledge of Materials and Processes for product development, improvement, design, application and production
  • Experience with engineering drawings and/or specifications or reports, and providing guidance to engineers or stakeholders
Desired Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related discipline
  • Familiarity with NASA or military specifications and Engineering requirements
  • Experience with LM corporate tools and/or LM Space PMP tools, command media and personnel
  • Knowledge of environmental and operational requirements for materials in space applications (flammability, dissimilar metals, stress corrosion, etc.)
  • Experience with Material Review Board processes and Quality tracking systems
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
Salary

The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
