Position OverviewThis role requires a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to provide technical leadership for mining engineering projects across the United States, Canada, Chile, and other locations. The position may be based in any of Arcadis’s Mountain West US offices and offers flexibility through hybrid work arrangements, requiring approximately 10% travel.
Role AccountabilitiesProvide leadership to the Geotechnical Engineering community and Mining Sector Team by applying technical principles and staying current on market conditions to support Arcadis growth. Act as or become an Engineer of Record on appropriate projects or serve as a Deputy EoR for mine projects. Identify and pursue business development opportunities. Represent Arcadis to external teams and clients using excellent communication skills.
Lead engineering project teams by defining goals, constraints, and managing external inputs, applying sound decision making to deliver technical solutions. Perform geotechnical engineering reviews and provide key input on critical projects. Apply engineering principles and mine operation knowledge to deliver effective solutions to client challenges.
- Mine tailings and water dam siting, design and evaluations
- Mine high wall investigations and slope stability analysis
- Direct and support Dam Safety Reviews
- Geotechnical investigation, monitoring methods and techniques
- Soft‑ground mechanics and stabilization techniques
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
- B.S. degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or closely related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum 15 years of experience
- Postgraduate degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or closely related field
- Direct experience with geotechnical modeling software such as Geo Studio, Roc Science, FLAC, PLAXIS, etc.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D, Arc Map, or similar geospatial software
- Spanish language proficiency a plus for international teamwork
The salary range for this position is $175,774 – $265,162. Actual salaries vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
