Financial Accountant

The Financial Accountant at Valor Christian High School is a key member of a highly skilled finance team focused on delivering accurate, timely, and meaningful financial information that supports strategic decision‑making and operational excellence across the school. As a service department, Business Services strives to represent a servant's heart while providing the highest level of customer service to our constituents, including students, families, faculty, staff, donors, and community partners.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules for management and leadership
  • Manage key aspects of the month‑end and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, account analysis, and financial review procedures
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, investment accounts, and other balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Analyze financial results, investigate variances, identify trends, and provide meaningful insights to finance leadership
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset records and calculate monthly depreciation
  • Reconcile donor‑restricted funds, endowment activity, and other designated accounts with the general ledger and supporting records
  • Assist with accounting and reporting related to contributions, grants, fundraising initiatives, and other nonprofit revenue streams
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analyses, reports, and forecasts to support strategic and operational decision‑making
  • Coordinate audit schedules, prepare supporting documentation, and serve as a primary liaison with external auditors during annual financial statement audits
  • Support the annual operating and capital budgeting processes
  • Monitor compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), organizational policies, and established accounting procedures
  • Maintain documentation and work papers that support financial reporting accuracy and audit readiness
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Assist in partnership with departments across the school to provide financial guidance, reporting support, and training as needed
  • Support special projects, strategic initiatives, and cross‑functional Business Services priorities
  • Stay current on accounting standards, nonprofit accounting practices, AI advancements, and industry trends impacting independent schools and finance operations
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the school's mission and operational objectives
