Position Overview

The YMCA is seeking a passionate, energetic, and dedicated Baton Twirling Instructor to join our team. This role is focused on inspiring a love of movement and performance in children by providing quality instruction, promoting confidence and teamwork, and ensuring a safe, fun, and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Plan and lead age‑appropriate baton twirling classes for youth ages 4–12, teaching fundamental skills and techniques (basic twirls, hand coordination, rhythm, and simple routines), demonstrating drills and choreography, and overseeing group practice or performances. Encourage participant confidence, creativity, growth, and skill development.

Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes/practices/games, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.

Answer questions from participants/parents to support them in achieving their goals related to youth development, maintaining a working knowledge of sport/activity trends.

Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA, encourage parent involvement, and identify potential volunteers.

Convey information on sports/activity programs and schedules, and refer participants and parents to other programs as appropriate.

Keep accurate class records (attendance & progress reports).

Follow YMCA policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations.

Prepare and maintain field/gym area before and after program sessions; organize and put away class equipment, and report damaged equipment.

Officiate sport/activity matches and games as scheduled; assist in supervision of volunteers involved in sport or activity.

Qualifications

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Certifications:

    CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Must be at least 16 years old and have experience participating in the area of instruction; previous experience instructing preferred.
