Job Summary
Provide excellent service to customers by assisting the Senior Service Designer, service design staff and Service Manager. Works within NFPA standards to create and draft sprinkler designs. Works to achieve annual company objectives and personal performance goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Complete sprinkler drawings as detailed in the most current NFPA standards documentation.
- Identify building construction type according to current NFPA standards documentation.
- Identify types of hazards and the appropriate protection for them.
- Work within a project budget.
- Coordinate work with other trades on non‑complex projects.
- Understand and resolve coordination problems.
- Design projects effectively, including cutting pipe with all appropriate fittings.
- Select all required materials for installation.
- Operate the current version of AutoCAD and all current AutoCAD tools.
- Coordinate pipe drawings, heads, hangers & other sprinkler components critical to design, field or other trade affected (non‑complex project).
- Conduct a field survey alone or with others to obtain all proper dimensions and information.
- Project hours, installation, field survey results, etc. for a project accurately.
- Meet industry quality standards in producing drawings, hydraulic calculations, material pick‑offs and material submittals for a project.
- Develop a complete material submittal that meets industry standards.
- Complete project paperwork such as test papers, insurance permits, punch list.
- Identify what is in contract vs. what is not in contract and alert appropriate personnel in writing.
- Troubleshoot and identify potential problems before they manifest.
- Order all materials necessary to complete a project.
- Communicate in face‑to‑face meetings with customers in a way that provides the company and the customer with accurate, thorough information about a job, and that leaves the customer with a positive impression of our company and our service.
- Have complete knowledge of all applicable fire codes, including NFPA 13.
- Take on the role of project leader, directing other team members to complete projects efficiently and accurately. As project leader, give regular, complete, and professional status reports to the Service Manager.
- Work with other departments to service customers.
- Work to achieve the company’s annual objectives and personal performance goals.
- Operate at all times in compliance with the company’s safety practices.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED is required.
- 2+ years of experience in Fire Protection design is required.
- Engineering background is a plus.
- Some mechanical aptitude is required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Hydratec CAD, and stock listing programs is required.
- NICET Certification is a plus.
- Demonstration of a positive attitude is required.
- Ability to think strategically, make sound decisions, and produce accurate and timely results is required.
