Job Description: Firewatch Technician
Location: Hilliard, Ohio (Onsite)
Employment Type: Contract
Fire Watch Technicians provide continuous fire monitoring inside data center facilities where fire suppression systems are taken offline during active construction. The work involves two roles per site: one person watching the fire alarm panel and one person walking the building on patrol. This role is necessary because dust from construction activities can force fire systems into a test mode, and this function ensures site safety and allows construction to proceed.
Responsibilities- Monitor the fire alarm control panel (FACP) while the fire system is in test mode and immediately escalate any alarm condition.
- Walk the building on regular patrol rounds (every 15–30 minutes), checking all areas for signs of smoke, fire, or heat.
- Notify the fire department, building occupants, and site operations immediately in the event of a fire or life safety event.
- Use available fire extinguishing equipment on small, incipient-stage fires only when it is safe to do so; otherwise, evacuate and escalate.
- Complete fire watch logs accurately and in real time, documenting patrol times, observations, and any unusual events.
- Stay in communication with site operations, construction teams, and other fire watch personnel throughout the shift via provided radios.
- Coordinate with operations and construction crews on system test windows, schedules, and site access.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Able to stand, walk, and patrol for 10-hour shifts.
- Possesses strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
- Demonstrates reliability and is able to accurately complete written fire watch logs.
- Prior fire watch, security, or life safety experience in construction, industrial, or mission-critical environments.
- Familiarity with fire alarm panels and suppression systems.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience in data centers, hospitals, or other critical facility environments.
- Knowledge of NFPA 101, NFPA 25, or NFPA 51B fire watch standards.
A competitive compensation package will be provided. Pay will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
