Position Overview
The City is recruiting for a Maintenance Technician who will work in our Public Service Department.
This position falls under the USW union contract. The starting hourly pay for this position is $23.83 per hour. Candidates who possess a valid Class A CDL and have prior relevant experience may be eligible to start at a higher step.
Compensation & Pay ScaleStep1: $23.83 hourly / $49,564.42 annually
Step2 (after 12 months of service in Step1): $26.33 hourly / $54,768.31 annually
Step3 (after 12 months of service in Step2): $28.84 hourly / $59,976.49 annually
Step4 (after 12 months of service in Step3): $31.34 hourly / $65,182.52 annually
Step5 (after 12 months of service in Step4): $33.84 hourly / $70,390.69 annually
Step6 (after 12 months of service in Step5): $36.34 hourly / $75,594.58 annually
Responsibilities- Work under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, either alone or as part of a crew, performing a wide range of semi‑skilled and skilled general maintenance tasks and repair activities.
- Operate a variety of motorized vehicles and specialized mechanical and/or electronic equipment (dump truck with snowplow and salt spreading attachments, backhoe, front end loader, chain saw, chiller, leaf machine, jack hammer, sewer video camera, etc.)
- Utilize hand tools (shovel, pick, axe, sledgehammer, handsaw, air wrench, welder, etc.) as needed for specific job duties.
- Use field mobile devices to complete work orders, maintain routine records, and communicate.
- Maintain and repair city vehicle and equipment inventory to ensure it is in good operating order.
- Conduct inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies and inform the supervisor of any resource needs.
- Perform a variety of tasks related to special events including traffic control and debris removal.
- Ensure proper utilization of safety precautions, including proper barricades and traffic control devices.
- Clean, inspect, and/or replace sanitary and storm sewer lines.
- Monitor, clean, and repair wastewater lift station pumps and related facilities.
- Perform chipper brush and leaf collection.
- Perform road repairs including pavement and berm work.
- Perform citywide landscape maintenance and right‑of‑way beautification tasks—plants, weeds, and waters flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns.
- Maintain parks, multi‑use paths, and athletic fields/courts.
- Perform preventative maintenance and make repairs to HVAC and related mechanical equipment; plumbing and electrical systems; maintaining facilities (doors, windows, ceiling, floors, walls, roofs, plumbing, heating, ventilation, etc.); and other maintenance related duties.
- Perform simple mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting and dry‑wall work.
- Perform electrical repairs to City lift stations, streetlights, and traffic signal systems.
- Plan, organize, and perform traffic street sign fabrication, construction, installation, and repair tasks.
- Set up proper work zones and maintain job sites.
- Operate CDL and non‑CDL equipment.
- Assist with custodial duties as assigned at city‑owned public buildings and facilities.
- Perform on‑call repairs, when necessary, 24hours a day for emergencies.
- Perform all other duties as directed.
- Operational knowledge of motorized, mechanical, and electronic equipment.
- Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in construction and maintenance work.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and responsibility, working efficiently and productively with or without direct supervision.
- Knowledge of the safe and correct use of hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work assigned.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to complete work orders and written reports.
- Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow Maintenance Technicians and to be courteous to the public.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a valid State of Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements; CDL must be obtained within six (6) months of appointment.
- Must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule and be on‑call for repairs, when necessary, 24hours a day for emergencies.
