DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS

Teaches 30 units per year (face to face or online) as assigned in Theatre and Communications (specifically speech). Also, serves as the Theatre Director. Engages students in the teaching/learning process; works assigned schedule, participates in college committee work, represents the college in the community, and performs other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach 30 semester units per year in Theatre and Communications, specifically speech, in both face-to-face and online modalities.
  • Carry a full‑time teaching load of 15 credit hours per semester, with varying times and days.
  • Remain current with subject matter and instructional methodology.
  • Maintain posted office hours in accordance with departmental and college policies.
  • Lead assessment in Theatre and Communications: develop and maintain assessment plans and apply appropriate assessment techniques.
  • Communicate course progress to students in a timely manner and determine and submit students’ grades in accordance with college policies.
  • Assist with student advising and develop syllabi.
  • Mentor part‑time faculty and establish and maintain advisory groups.
  • Engage in curriculum development and deliver high‑quality courses.
  • Support the mission of the program, division, and college.
  • Participate in professional activities such as committee work, community services, professional expertise maintenance, student interaction, collaboration with other institutions and industry, and support for part‑time faculty.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with the Dean, Division Coordinator, division faculty, other faculty, and the college and service communities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
  • Work an assigned schedule, exhibit regular punctual attendance, and work overtime as required to meet workload demands.
  • Attend the commencement ceremony.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct two main‑stage productions per year (one fall, one spring), which includes:
    • Theatrical designing (set, lights, costumes, sound)
    • Technical direction/execution (set, lights, and sound)
    • Front‑of‑house direction/execution (ticket agent/sales, staffing, etc.)
    • Public relations direction/execution (press releases, poster designs, website updates, etc.)
  • Maintain theatre inventory and equipment (lights and sound).
  • Schedule and/or provide technical assistance for non‑theatrical events in the theatre.
  • Advise the SSCC Theatre Company (student club).
  • Engage in community outreach.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • SCOPE OF SUPERVISION

    None

    EQUIPMENT OPERATED

    Computer, printer, copier, fax machine, telephone, and other standard office equipment. Theatre equipment: light board, sound board, focusing lighting, set construction tools, and any other equipment necessary for theatrical production.

    CONFIDENTIAL DATA

    Non‑public personnel and student records, issues, and other sensitive college matters. Employee and student information covered by FERPA guidelines and the College’s FERPA Confidentiality Agreement.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Good classroom working conditions. The work requires safe work practices with office, classroom and laboratory equipment, and observance of safety regulations.

    USUAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The employee regularly sits for extended periods of time, stands, walks, uses manual dexterity for computer work, reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels, crouches, talks and hears when teaching or working with students and the public.
