Distinguishing Job Characteristics
Teaches 30 units per year (face to face or online) as assigned in Theater and Communications (specifically speech). Also, serves as the Theater Director. Engages students in the teaching/learning process; works assigned schedule, participates in college committee work, represents the college in the community, and performs other related duties as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teach 30 semester units per year as assigned in Theater and Communications, specifically speech. Modalities to include both face to face and online.
A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per semester is typical, teaching assignments may include various times, and days, and with various formats (face-to-face, on-line, etc.).
Remain current with subject matter and instructional methodology.
Maintain posted office hours in accordance with departmental and college policies.
Assessment Lead in areas of Theatre and Communications. Develops and maintains assessment plans. Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
Communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
Determine and submit students’ grades in accordance with established college policies and procedures.
Assist with student advising.
Develop syllabi, mentor all part-time faculty, plus establish and maintain advisory groups.
Engaging in curriculum development with the College. Prepare and deliver high-quality courses.
Support the mission of the program, division, and college.
During the balance of the weekly time available, participating in professional activities that may include, but not limited to, the following: committee work, community services, maintenance of professional expertise, interacting with students and perspective students, cooperating with other educational institutions, cooperating with business and industry, and working with part-time faculty.
Maintain cooperative relationships with the Dean of Academic Affairs, Division Coordinator, Division faculty, other faculty and the college and service communities.
Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works overtime as required to meet workload demands.
Attend Commencement Ceremony.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
As SSCC Theatre Director:
1. Directs two mainstage productions per year (one fall, one spring), which may include the following:
- Theatrical Designing (set, lights, costumes, sound)
- Technical Direction/Execution (set, lights, and sound)
- Front of House Direction/Execution (ticket agent/sales, staffing, etc.)
- Public Relations Direction/Execution (press releases, poster designs, updates for website, etc.)
2. Maintains theatre, inventory, and theatre equipment (lights and sound)
3. Schedules and/or provides technical assistance for non-theatrical events in the theatre.
4. Advises the SSCC Theatre Company (student club).
5. Community Outreach
Performs other related duties as required.
