Administrative Specialist II (Variable Hour)
The Washington County Sheriff's Office seeks a variable hour Administrative Specialist II to support the Business Administration team. The role involves payroll and timekeeping, budgeting and financials, contract coordination, equipment and supply issuance, and HR liaison support.
Position Type & Compensation- Variable Hour – up to 20 hours per week averaged over a three‑month period.
- Hourly rate: $25.02 – $30.42.
- Accrues sick time; not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.
Sheriff's Office – Business Administration Team.
Responsibilities- Maintain payroll and timekeeping records.
- Assist with budgeting and financial reporting.
- Coordinate contracts and manage equipment and supply issuance.
- Provide HR liaison support to departmental employees.
- Serve as a customer service point for within‑department inquiries.
- Modern office practices and methods.
- Business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Business report preparation techniques.
- Operation and maintenance of office equipment and machinery.
- Understanding of relevant federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Principles and procedures of financial recordkeeping and reporting.
- Basic mathematical principles.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite effectively.
- Effective written and oral communication in English.
- Time‑management skills; ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Collaborative teamwork and general direction following.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Provide timely, effective, and efficient customer service to internal employees.
- Interact patiently with individuals with limited knowledge of county programs.
- Process assigned work efficiently and at the required speed.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Use Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent for processing work.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Use keen time‑management skills, balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of progressively responsible administrative or clerical support experience.
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) or other relevant certification may substitute up to one year of experience.
- Selected candidate must pass a post‑offer drug screening.
- Full background investigation will be required; typically 6‑8 weeks to complete.
