Position Title: Migrant Education Academic Support Tutor
Department: Instructional Services
Location: Washington Service Center – serving a four-county area
Reports To: Program Administrator
Compensation: Licensed Salary Schedule, per negotiated contract (Range: $56,530 – $104,459 annually: DOE; pro‑rated for actual FTE worked)
FTE: 10–15 hours per week, including evenings and weekends
Position Status: Temporary through 9.30.26
General DescriptionIn alignment with the NWRESD’s mission statement, this licensed position provides targeted academic instruction to migrant students in grades K‑12, prioritizing students in grades 6‑12 during program initiation. The tutor works collaboratively with students, families, and school staff to deliver culturally responsive, standards‑aligned instruction that supports students’ academic goals, graduation pathways, and postsecondary readiness. Tutoring services may include support in core academic subjects, skill development, and study strategies with instruction tailored to individual student needs.
The tutor uses communication with school staff, ongoing assessment, and progress monitoring to adjust instruction and ensure meaningful academic growth while maintaining compliance with Migrant Education Program requirements.
The position also includes family outreach and student caseload management in collaboration with MEP staff. The MEP Academic Support Tutor maintains and prioritizes student contact lists, coordinates tutoring schedules, and documents services provided. The tutor assists families with onboarding students and communicates available services in a culturally and linguistically responsive manner, serving as a point of contact for academic support.
Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Valid Oregon teacher’s license with appropriate subject area endorsement.
- Experience with a variety of age‑appropriate instructional, assessment, and student management strategies that reflect current research on best practices.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Spanish bilingual and biliteracy skills required.
- Valid driver’s license; available transportation and proof of auto insurance.
- Possession of CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain preferred.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous development and inclusive practices.
- Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work.
- Knowledge of state and federal education laws and student and staff rights.
- Professionalism and effective human relations skills.
- Regular communication with immediate supervisor.
- Proficiency in computer and internet‑based applications, including email, internet software, Google Suite, and Microsoft Word.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to collect, analyze, and interpret student data.
- Experience with children exhibiting behavior and emotional disorders and strategies for managing behavior.
- Adherence to state and federal education laws, NWRESD policies, and professional standards.
- Respect for confidential information and privacy of students, staff, and families.
- Ability to direct the work of other staff members.
- Experience with students with behavioral needs preferred.
- Ability to travel when needed to Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook, and Washington counties.
