Support Specialist​/Autism Consultant; FTE - L20SY

Support Specialist/Autism Consultant | 1.0 FTE | 10 Month Calendar | Student Services - Administration Center

Provide support for classroom teachers and assistants working with special education students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Conduct evaluations to determine eligibility in the area of ASD.

• Master’s Degree in Special Education or equivalent experience and training
• A valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement
• Training, experience, and expertise in educational issues for students with ASD, including identification, instruction, behavior management, collaborative problem solving, staff development
• The ability to provide leadership to staff in area of specialization
• Good interpersonal skills to consult with and advise teachers in a variety of classroom situations
• A valid Oregon Driver’s license and reliable transportation for on-the-job travel
• Physical ability to train and/or assist staff in physical management of students in crisis
• Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons
• The ability to follow oral and written instructions
• The ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds
• The ability to work harmoniously with others
• Proficient oral and written communication skills in English
• Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications
• The ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District
• Bilingual English/Spanish Required/Preferred (bilingual is defined as fluency in reading, writing and speaking two languages as determined by District screening tool)
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required
