Position: Principal -Temporary - 26/27 School Year - Department and Location as assigned

Principal

In alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, this position oversees a school or program serving students of NWRESD. Responsibilities include the supervision of instruction and staff, student support services, facilities and operations, student activities, interagency collaboration, and community engagement. The program is implemented in alignment with ESD policies and procedures, Oregon statutes and administrative rules, and applicable federal laws and regulations.

It is also designed to complement and support the instructional programs of the local school districts within the ESD's service area. An NWRESD principal is an antiracist leader responsible for program vision, administration, standards, monitoring, accountability, and reporting within the mission and vision of the NWRESD. The Principal works to foster a positive, inclusive learning climate in the school by ensuring the systematic improvement and evaluation of instructional programs that respond to student, school, community, and District needs.

The role contributes to an effective, comprehensive, District-wide integrated educational and student development program by directing the development and effective implementation of applicable program elements at the site and program level, and ensuring a fluid experience for students and parents throughout their varied transitions.

  • Valid Oregon TSPC Administrative License or ability to obtain license within timeline specified by district.
  • Master's Degree in Education Leadership, Special Education, or School Administration
  • Minimum three years of experience in Early Learning, K-12, or special education school setting.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and culturally responsive practices.
  • Valid Driver's License; available transportation and proof of auto insurance.
  • Related experience as a teacher or administrator

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
  • Proficiency in the use of educational technology and digital tools, including Google Workspace (G Suite) and emerging tools such as educational AI platforms, for communication, data analysis, and instructional or systems-level support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education legal requirements and implementation of such requirements on the individual student level.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to understand and effectively work with state and federal budgetary resources.

  • Creative and collaborative problem-solving abilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with a variety of staff, community members, families, and other department staff in the smooth and effective delivery of services to students and their families.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings at various levels to improve service delivery.
  • Assure program operation consistent with program model and in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and NWRESD procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide support to staff to meet the changing needs of students and programs, including goal setting, development of a wide variety of effective instructional/evaluation strategies, classroom/student management, record keeping, and other identified needs.
  • Serve as liaison between the ESD and the Oregon Department of Education and other state and federal agencies and organizations as assigned.
  • Assist with coordination of MTSS initiatives, including behavior support planning, attendance interventions, and re-engagement strategies.
  • Support supervision, evaluation, and professional growth of assigned staff in alignment with district evaluation systems and instructional priorities.
  • Assist in facilitating professional learning communities and staff development activities.
  • Collaborate with LEAs, community agencies, and internal departments to support coordinated student services and smooth program transitions.
  • Assist the Principal with data collection, monitoring, and reporting related to instructional effectiveness, student outcomes, and program improvement.
  • Manage a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned personnel, etc.) for enforcing school, District, and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.
