General DutiesIn alignment with NWRESD’s mission, the Teacher on Special Assignment will contribute to the development and execution of the district’s professional development system for educators across twenty component school districts and for ESD employees across four counties. The successful TOSA works collaboratively with department members and other NWRESD professionals, is committed to educational equity and anti‑racism, uses best‑practice research in designing adult learning activities, applies instructional coaching cycles, understands improvement science methodologies, and brings a growth mindset to pedagogical and systems improvement.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in curriculum, instruction, counseling, or teaching
- Valid Oregon TSPC Teaching License or ability to obtain license within the specified timeline, including Mathematics Endorsement, preferably Advanced Mathematics
- Three or more years of successful PK‑12 teaching/educational experience
- Three or more years of successful experience planning and delivering effective professional development, including coaching
- Experience leading equity work
- Valid Driver’s License, available transportation, and proof of auto insurance
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous development and proactive bias management
- Professionalism and effective human relations skills
- Regular consultation with immediate supervisor
- Proficiency with computer and internet applications, including email, Google Suite, and MS Word
- Knowledge of current and emerging practices for effective adult learning
- Fluency in the structure of K‑12 schools and early learning environments
- Science of math
- Best practices in mathematics instruction

- MTSS/data‑based decision making
- Educational equity, antiracism, and social justice principles
- Implementation science practices
- Coaching or mentoring teachers to improve student learning, providing non‑evaluative feedback, and modeling best learning practices
- Facilitation of groups in meetings and workshops
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with clarity and precision
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, communicate clearly, and manage multiple projects
- Deliver and facilitate professional learning, including school coaching, to school teams in the 20 districts across Columbia, Clatsop, Tillamook, and Washington counties and to NWRESD employees
- Support development, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive networked learning model
- Act as a content area expert in the assigned area
- Engage in reflective thinking and critically examine instructional practices
- Introduce refinements for instructional practices through coaching conversations
- Support successful implementation of professional learning based on identified district needs
- Analyze feedback to guide future professional development priorities
