The Multilingual Learner (ML)/Migrant Education (ME) Specialist promotes and develops successful program services including English Language Development (ELD), Spanish literacy, supplemental Migrant Education tutorial services for English Learners and migrant students, Dual Language Program support and performs related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The specialist also maintains a collaborative relationship with staff, students, and families.
The ML/ME Specialist delivers appropriate instruction for ML students who are active ELs and ensures access to general education content via sheltered instruction supports, manages a monthly caseload, maintains regular communication with migrant students, their families and appropriate staff members, and is responsible for language proficiency testing as required by district, state, and federal guidelines. The ML/ME/ Specialist develops lessons and schedules for paraprofessionals and measures student progress (iElPA Summative, progress monitoring goals with formative assessments and student work).
REQUIREDQUALIFICATIONS
- A valid State of Oregon Teaching License appropriate for the position
- Hold an ESOL Endorsement
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- The ability to follow oral and written instructions
- The ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds
- The ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively with others
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English
- Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications
- The ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District
- Duties may include Dual Language Program support
- Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred (bilingual is defined as fluency in reading, writing and speaking two languages as determined by District screening tool)
- Possess and maintain a current CPR and First Aid card
