  • Compensation: Classified Salary Schedule – Range D ($22.39 – $26.73 per hour, DOE)

  • FTE: 0.9375 (37.50)
General Description

Under the overall supervision of the building principal and direct instructions from early learning or special education teachers, the instructional assistant carries out program activities as planned and scheduled by licensed personnel. Responsibilities include implementing IEP or IFSP activities in individual and small groups, monitoring student safety and behavior, and supporting students as needed. The assistant works with students of various ages and learning needs.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in both languages
  • Physical ability to assist students with special needs, including positioning, lifting, transferring, and restraining when required
  • Ability to lift students from a wheelchair to the floor and back, and on and off a changing table
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous development and modeling inclusive behaviors

  • Regular communication with supervisors
  • Proficiency in computer and internet-based applications (email, web, Google Suite, MS Word)
  • Effective teamwork and cooperation
  • Required certifications (valid driver’s license, CPR, blood borne pathogens training, and other ESD training)
Essential Functions
  • Provide instruction under the direction of a licensed educator
  • Communicate orally, read, and write in English and Spanish to support learners and families
  • Translate teacher notes to families and vice‑versa
  • Demonstrate cultural competence related to Spanish‑speaking English‑language learners and their families
  • Assist teachers with assignments, grading, record maintenance, and student supporting activities
  • Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and help develop appropriate social skills
  • Collect and maintain required data as directed by the licensed teacher
  • Assist with student toileting needs as directed
  • Maintain student safety and monitor behavior during recess, in class, and during bus loading/unloading; document incidents and complete required paperwork
  • Participate in restraint training as required
  • Attend staff and team meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Be proactive regarding health and safety matters
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all levels
  • Perform other job duties as assigned
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Wash and dry children’s clothing as needed
  • Wash dishes and toys as advised
  • Sanitize desks, tables, straws, oral‑motor equipment, and other items as advised
  • Arrange classroom furniture as advised
