Substitute School Counselor
GENERAL DUTIES
School counselors design and deliver comprehensive school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. They lead, advocate and collaborate to promote equity and access for each and every student by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan. They uphold the ethical and professional standards of ASCA (American School Counseling Association) and promote the development of the school counseling program based on the following areas of the ASCA National Model®:
Define, Deliver, Manage and Assess. Works under the direction of the building principal to advise and support students at risk for disengagement, including those impacted by mental health and behavioral challenges, absenteeism, and substance use. Student Support and Wellness Counselor provides social/emotional support to students and integrates mental health and substance use prevention and intervention services.
Is responsible for supporting staff and students in achieving a positive, productive school climate with the primary focus on providing and supporting social-emotional awareness and instruction through evidenced-based and trauma-informed responses and practices.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Valid NJ criminal history letter
- Negative tuberculosis test obtained within 6 months of initial employment
- License Requirement: A valid State of Oregon License appropriate for the position
