Commercial Engine Lead CVA Technician – Hillsboro, OR
This position is based at Peterson Power Systems in Hillsboro, OR and is responsible for leading field service operations on commercial engines and generator systems.
Essential Job Functions- Maintain a safe working environment and follow all safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.
- Promote and adhere to contamination control guidelines.
- Communicate with internal and external customers to foster positive relationships.
- Work overtime and be on call during evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Travel for customer service, including overnight stays and out‑of‑territory trips.
- Follow manufacturer and company field service guidelines to ensure quality work and document component failures for analysis.
- Perform inspections and safety training, both in person and virtually.
- Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions independently.
- Provide pre‑delivery setup, installation, and start‑up for all Caterpillar engines, generators (primary in marine applications), and related products.
- Perform level‑1 and level‑2 generator system service.
- Repair, replace, or rebuild engines and related components (fuel systems, generator control systems, switch gear, marine power systems, etc.) for both Cat and non‑Cat products.
- Assist electric‑power field technicians as required.
- Write accurate service reports and prepare work orders, parts lists, and timecards.
- Back up the Field Service Supervisor and/or service manager on larger jobs, problem‑solving, and estimating beyond flat rates.
- Provide technical support and on‑the‑job training for other field technicians.
- Assist the Service Manager with performance evaluations and technician feedback.
- Open and close all shop work orders within seven days of LDL.
- Track large or special customer jobs through the repair process to ensure timely completion and accurate part orders.
- Keep the service manager informed of daily field operations and potential problem situations.
- Maintain ongoing customer‑service relationships in coordination with the Service Manager and Supervisor.
- Oversee work‑in‑process in the field, testing, and final preparation for delivery.
- Report lost, broken, or stolen equipment to the service manager.
- Provide written recommendations for field tooling and equipment improvements.
- Solicit information on engine system sales and service opportunities and forward it to the sales staff.
- Attend store meetings via Teams or in‑store to review service reports, flat rates, policies, and part inventory.
- Keep assigned company vehicles clean, professional, and operational; use company or personal vehicle as needed.
- Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance; support safety and housekeeping standards.
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or technical/vocational school in Diesel Technology or a closely related field.
- At least 6 years of directly related experience in power generation or commercial engine service, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
