Overview

Job Details:

Intel’s Quantum Computing Group is pioneering the development of silicon-based quantum processors, leveraging Intel’s decades of semiconductor expertise to build scalable quantum systems. Our team focuses on spin qubit technology in silicon quantum dots, combining cutting-edge physics with Intel’s manufacturing capabilities to create commercially viable quantum computers. We collaborate across Intel’s research divisions and with leading academic institutions to advance the field of quantum computing.

Intel’s Quantum Computing team is seeking a PhD-level Quantum Device Measurement Engineer to characterize silicon spin qubits at millikelvin temperatures. You’ll work hands-on with dilution refrigerators to perform electrical measurements and quantum circuit computations, helping to advance Intel’s silicon quantum dot technology. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in qubit measurement with an innovative mindset and passion for pushing the boundaries of quantum processor development.

In this role, you’ll independently design experiments, analyze quantum device performance, and collaborate across teams to accelerate Intel’s quantum computing roadmap. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced research environment and can adapt to evolving program needs while maintaining focus on breakthrough results.

Responsibilities
  • Propose and execute innovative ideas to accelerate Intel’s quantum program.
  • Study spin qubits in silicon.
  • Design and implement experiments.
  • Hands-on device electrical measurements.
  • Analyze data and develop predictive device models.
  • Develop efficient device testing and verification methods.
  • Use dilution refrigerators.
  • Efficiently communicate and collaborate with other groups to determine and validate success criteria.
  • Independent design and follow-through of unique, enabling ideas are key expectations for this role.
  • Collaboration with external research groups and vendor programs.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in quantum computing technology.
Behavioral traits
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Keen experimental insight with the ability to devise and focus on key experiments.
  • Highly motivated and excited by self-directed, hands-on work.
  • Creativity and flexibility to thrive under changing priorities.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Cryogenic Engineering, Quantum Information, Quantum Technologies, or Quantum Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in electrical measurement of semiconductor qubits or quantum devices.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: tuning quantum dots to the few-electron regime, measuring quantum dot threshold voltages, charge noise, noise spectroscopy, valley splitting; qubit readout, spin state readout, measuring fidelity, spin resonance, coherence time, relaxation, T1, T2, Rabi, Ramsey, CPMG, Hahn Echo, Pauli Spin Blockade, spin orbit, quantum gates, or Bell State, GHZ, tomography, or algorithms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with the electrical measurements of spin qubits, singlet-triplet qubits, exchange-only qubits, semiconductor qubits, and/or quantum well heterostructures, preferably in silicon, Si/SiGe or Ge/SiGe.
  • Measuring devices at cryogenic temperatures including mK – to 4 K.
  • Experience in programming, software, or driver development, preferably with Python.
  • 1st author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience with quantum error correction or characterization protocols.
  • Experience with dilution refrigerators or other cryogenic systems.
