About the Role

This role leads the design and development of complex mechanical and electromechanical products from concept through production. The Senior Mechanical Engineer drives mechanical architecture, mechanism design, validation, and manufacturing readiness for both new product development and sustaining engineering efforts.

This position partners cross-functionally with Product, Electrical Engineering, Sourcing, and global manufacturing teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions to market. The role also provides technical leadership to external development partners and contract manufacturers to support successful product realization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research & analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, & manuals to determine feasibility of design and/or application.
  • Design and develop advanced electromechanical systems that integrate mechanical components with electronic sensors, actuators, and controls, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of our products.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of mechanisms for motion, force, and energy transfer, using both analytical methods and computational tools to predict performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Translate product requirements into engineering specifications and develop solutions suitable for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Provide technical leadership, knowledge transfer, and engineering guidance to external development partners in the U.S. and Asia, including on-site support as needed.
  • Use predictive engineering analysis tools and experiments to establish proof of concept.
  • Provide technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, & process advantages & limitations for plastics and metal fabrication.
  • Take ownership of technical issues to drive root cause, resolution, and design improvements.
  • Prepare and direct product design, system layouts, detailed drawings & schematics.
  • Direct & coordinate fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
  • Plan & develop experimental test programs, analyze test data & reports to determine if design meets functional & performance specifications, provide recommendations, and generate technical documents.
  • Own subsystem architecture and critical design decisions through engineering analysis, mechanism development, and validation.
  • Lead root cause investigations and drive corrective actions through testing, analysis, and production implementation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and influence engineering best practices across the team.
  • Evaluate field installations & recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Competency

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Thorough knowledge of standard engineering principles, theories and concepts of mechanical design.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced NPI environment.
  • Proven ability to work with offshore manufacturing, sourcing and development resources required.
  • Ability to travel internationally required.
  • Proven ability to create engineering validation tests (EVT) and clearly report on findings.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office programs required.
  • Design - Generates creative solutions; applies design principles; demonstrates attention to detail. Specific experience with injection molded plastic, sheet metal parts, and assemblies are required.
  • Design for Manufacturability – Analyze and modify piece part designs to meet manufacturability and moldability requirements of volume plastic manufacturing processes.
  • Design for Assembly – Analyze and direct design and assembly reviews to comply with DFA principles and practices.
  • DFMEA – Able to evaluate designs and proposals for DFMEA scoring and mitigation.
  • Proficiency applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles to part design, tolerance analysis, manufacturing drawings, and inspection methods.
  • Experience designing precision mechanisms involving springs, latches, cams, motion transfer, and tolerance-sensitive assemblies preferred.
