Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Structural Designer to join their team in Hillsboro, Oregon. This contract-to-hire opportunity is ideal for a motivated professional who can take ownership of structural design efforts, work independently with engineers and project teams, and contribute to the successful delivery of industrial and commercial facility projects.

At this level, the Structural Designer develops and coordinates design solutions with minimal supervision, performs advanced modeling and drafting activities, and provides guidance to junior team members. The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent coordination skills, and the ability to drive projects forward while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and publish project deliverables including drawings, models, details, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Plan and conduct structural design work requiring sound judgment, creativity, and coordination.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project teams, and clients to identify project goals and develop effective design solutions.
  • Prepare deliverables for all project phases, including plans, elevations, sections, schedules, and details.
  • Participate in design reviews, status meetings, and interdisciplinary coordination efforts.
  • Review project specifications and ensure designs comply with applicable requirements and standards.
  • Coordinate structural designs with other disciplines and resolve design conflicts.
  • Perform field surveys and document existing conditions.
  • Respond promptly to design inquiries, coordination requests, and information‑sharing needs.
  • Develop labor estimates and support project planning activities.
  • Review and process submittals and other project documentation.
  • Assist with engineering calculations under the guidance of a project engineer when required.
  • Review the work of junior designers and early‑career engineers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, Design Technology, Structural Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Several years of structural design experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, commercial, or similar facility projects.
  • Extensive experience with Revit and AutoCAD for structural modeling and drafting.
  • Strong experience utilizing Navisworks and Bluebeam for model review and coordination.
  • Working knowledge of structural design principles, codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while managing priorities and meeting project deadlines.
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform as a lead designer for a building area, system, or project scope.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, industrial, or high‑tech facility projects.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis concepts and engineering calculations.
  • Experience mentoring junior designers and leading design coordination efforts.

  • Advanced structural modeling and drafting capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of how design decisions impact project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ability to evaluate multiple technical solutions and present recommendations.
  • Strong coordination and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards.
  • Ability to develop work plans, estimate effort, and manage assigned tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and commitment to quality.
